Wedding bands are pieces of jewelry that are supposed to be worn on your hand for a lifetime. The way it looks, feels and what it portrays about you or your spouse is therefore crucial. A comfortable wedding band is probably a good option, having something on your finger that is a constant irritation can get a bit much; also, your wedding band needs to look good no matter what you wear. Wedding bands are found in all type of metals, including, yellow gold, white gold, platinum, titanium and not forgetting, silver wedding bands.
Silver for wedding bands are not the most popular. Silver, whether plain or sterling makes great costume jewelry, in other words, it must only be worn every so often. The problem with pure silver is that because of oxidization it discolors over time, often eventually turning black. It is also a much softer metal when compared to gold, platinum and titanium and does not have the same durability and hardness as the other metals. If deciding to have a silver wedding band it is important to note that it will eventually scratch. This is not only in the case with silver, a wedding band, no matter which metal, is prone to scratching, the only difference is that silver will probably scratch a lot quicker and easier. Luckily, most metals can be cleaned up fast and jewelers should be able to get rid of the scratch marks with ease. Should you decide to have your silver wedding band engraved; the appearance of scratches will be much less noticeable.
Although silver wedding bands are not as popular as other metals they are more affordable and for the couple who is just starting out, a silver wedding ring is perfect. Silver is too a beautiful metal and can truly add something special to any occasion. Silver wedding bands will suit couples who are not continuously busy with their hands, for a woman who has an office job or the man who works in front of the computer, the silver ring is a good option, however, if one is continuously exposed to sun and dirt, it can cause the ring to oxidize faster. In such an instance, one should rather save up for a more durable piece of jewelry. Many couples use silver wedding bands as first bands and then replace them after a year or so, when they are able to afford more. At the end of the day, you ring does not need to cost thousands, it just needs to mean the world to you, and if this is the case, then a silver wedding band will just be great.
