  Timberland started in 1973 was born; it started off as the brand name for original waterproof leather boot. The boot became a success and popular it became the company’s name, The Timberland Company. Then in 1978 – 1979 Timberland added casual and boot shoes to expand it to more than just a boot company. The company expanded into a international lifestyle brand within the 80s. The first international market was launched in Italy. Then Timberland introduced clothing and women’s footwear. In 1989 Timberland became the founding sponsor of the Boston-based “urban Peace Corps” where it brought young people from diverse background for a year of full-time community service.


During the 90s clever ideas such as the Path of Service program began. It is when Timberland employees have 40 hours of paid time-off to help and serve their communities. They also started creating great products and introduced them to the world – watches, socks, kids’ footwear, backpacks and many other gears.
