Then Albert takes over the management of his brother-in-law importing company, where it continues to distribute several brands of Swiss watches as well as the Wittnauer brand. Then Emile the youngest of the Wittnauer siblings comes to New York to join and work with his brothers. With great success the A. Wittnauer Company outgrows the small building and moves to the tenth floor of a new skyscraper in Maiden Lane. Louis who ran the company while Albert who made frequent business trips to Switzerland dies in 1899 and so Emile takes over the management of the New York office.

As Wittnauer becomes more successful Albert and Emile dies which leaves the company in the hands of their sister Martha, with women’s status in that time, this company became the few major American enterprises to be run by a woman. In 1918 Wittnauer developed the world’s first waterproof, shock-proof, anti-magnetic watch and able to be thrown from the Empire state Building, throw off planes, taken to steaming Amazon jungles and brought the highest elevation of the Himalayas. Later it was used by countless servicemen during the WWII.
